1840's Locksmith Museum

Since opening in 1941,

We have collected many types of locks. Our museum features a wide variety of items that date from the 1840’s to the 1950’s. On display you will see an assortment of the following items from the past

  • (3) Wells Fargo type chests
  • Over (20) types of handcuffs along with a ball and chain
  • (13) small antique safes
  • Ladies boudoir safe from the late 1800’s
  • (80) children’s safe banks
  • (120) salesman samples which are “cut-away” locks that demonstrate how they work
  • (40) time clocks used on bank vaults and safes
  • Tear gas vials used on vaults and safes
  • Jail and prison locks
  • Antique brass escutcheon name plates used on safes back to 1843
  • Over (160) different types of locks
  • Old “wooden” type locks
  • Wide variety of padlocks including “Chinese type”
  • (12) Vintage key duplicating machines
  • (12) Old fashion automobile anti-theft lock

The museum is open to the public Monday thru Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm, and on Saturday from 8:30am to 11:30am..

There is no other place in the Midwest to see a collection of such historical significance in the lock industry. We’d be happy to share it with you.
